Brass
Clemency Burton-Hill introduces BBC Young Musician 2010. Over 300 of the UK's best young musicians entered this year's competition and just 25 were chosen to go through to the five category finals - brass, keyboard, strings, woodwind and percussion.
In the brass final, five young people compete at the BBC Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff for the title of category winner and an all-important place in the competition semi-final. Expect tension, drama and some exceptional performances, with music by Strauss, Schumann and Fasch.

Strings

Keyboards

Woodwind

In the woodwind final, five young hopefuls from Somerset, Perth, Letchworth, Rochdale and Milton Keynes battle it out for the title of category winner and a place in the competition semi-final. Featuring music by Vivaldi, Bach and Brahms, viewers can expect tension, drama and some exceptional performances.

Percussion

Five young percussionists from Northampton, Cambridge, Manchester, Leicestershire and Hong Kong compete for the title of category winner and the one remaining place in the competition semi-final. Expect tension, drama and some exceptional performances of music by Zappa, Corea and Zivcovic.

Semi-Final
Clemency Burton-Hill introduces the semi-final of BBC Young Musician 2010. Over 300 of the UK's best young classical musicians entered the competition, but only five have made it through the hotly contested category finals to the competition semi-final.
The five category winners - 18-year-old French horn player Anna Douglass, 13-year-old violinst Callum Smart, 15-year-old pianist Lara Omeroglu, 17-year-old flautist Emma Hanlan and the winner of the percussion category - reprise their category-winning performances in front of a new jury at the BBC Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff. At stake, just three coveted places in the BBC Young Musician 2010 final.
Featuring music by Strauss, Brahms, Chopin, Bach and Zappa, expect high tension and some exceptional music making.

Final
Howard Goodall and Clemency Burton-Hill introduce the final of BBC Young Musician 2010 from the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, as the biennial competition reaches its climax.
Since the competition was first started by the BBC back in 1978 it has launched the careers of some of the UK's leading performers. Previous winners include Natalie Clein, Freddie Kempf, Nicola Benedetti and Peter Moore, who triumphed in 2008 and makes a guest appearance at this final.
Over 300 young musicians entered the 2010 competition and after four rounds of competition just three remain. In this final each will perform a concerto of their choice with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales conducted by Vasily Petrenko in front of a distinguished panel of adjudicators. This year's competition has already produced some memorable moments and the final promises to be no different. Expect high tension, drama and some exceptional music-making.
