Season 2
The second season of Canadian Idol debuted on June 1, 2004, and became the most watched show in Canada, drawing in over 3 million viewers each week.
Auditions were held in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Halifax, Regina, and St. John's. The season provided an Idol first when the final six contestants played their own instruments during a group performance of the Gordon Lightfoot classic "Canadian Railroad Trilogy". This was the first time that contestants on any Idol series had performed with instruments; the effort is still widely regarded as one of the finest group numbers ever to appear on the show.
Kalan Porter of Medicine Hat, Alberta won the series, and Theresa Sokyrka of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan was the runner-up. In November 2004, merely two months after the competition, Porter released his debut album entitled 219 Days – the number days spanning from his first audition to the release of his CD. Other Season Two finalists who released albums include Sokyrka, Jacob Hoggard, Jason Greeley, Shane Wiebe, and Joshua Seller.

Tue. Sept. 14 at 8pm ET - 10 New Idol Competitors Get Second Chance at Fame. They've watched from the sidelines as Jacob, Jason, Kalan, Shane and Theresa have become household names.
But now, 10 of the most ""unforgettable"" hopefuls from Canadian Idol's cross-country audition tour get a second chance at fame in The Best and the Worst of Canadian Idol, an all-new, one-hour special airing Tuesday, September 14 at 8 p.m. ET (check local listings) on CTV.
The 10 performers – unsuccessful in their original quest for Idol-dom – have been flown to Toronto from across the country to perform all-new numbers on the Canadian Idol stage. Producers have paired six of the 10 singers to perform three different duets: ""I Got You Babe,"" ""Almost Paradise,"" and ""Reunited."" The remaining three singers will unite together ""Three 10ors-style"" to perform one of the most-heard songs on the audition tour, ""A Whole New World.""

After months of auditions, miles of travel and millions of votes, Medicine Hat's Kalan Porter emerged triumphant as Canada's next Canadian Idol.
As revealed on Thursday night's live broadcast, the 18-year-old grabbed the most votes out of the 3.6 million cast after Wednesday's musical showdown in which he went head to head with Saskatoon's Theresa Sokyrka.
The shy singer with the booming set of pipes spoke with a shaky voice as he addressed the viewers after being proclaimed winner of the nationwide singing competition.
""I just want to say a big thank you to my parents and my family, the judges, everyone…and thank you to these guys [Idols] who are back here,"" Porter said as Ben Mulroney removed confetti from the singer's hair.
Launching into his new role, Porter sang Awake in a Dream, his first single as a Canadian Idol that will immediately be put into rotation across radio stations Friday morning.
