Public defender Megan Powers risks her life when she investigates a gangland-style slaying, and Officer Joe Gilland has to break up a humorous argument over a woman between two old friends.
Bright Lights, Big City
A small time hood must decide between life and freedom when he refuses to allow the evidence, a bullet lodged near his spine, that prosecutor Dutton needs to convict him to be removed surgically; Gilland fights to save his niece from the influence of a pimp who would turn her into a prostitute

Doctors Bergstrom and Carson get far more than they bargained for when their attempt to track down a drug courier from Mexico, who has a highly contagious form of plague, leads them into the middle of a drug war.

An innocent woman is slain by a bullet from the gun of Officer Joe Gilland, who was chasing illegal alien Wing Kom Po: Wing's pregnant wife. My Lin, enters the country unaware that she is carrying a cache of narcotics for her husband, who is slain in a doublecross, leaving her and her baby at the mercy of his wicked cousin, Hoanh An; when Hoanh An tries to sell her baby, My Lin kills the evil woman.
Not Quite Paradise (2)
Lou Pellegrino, defending My Lin on a murder charge, is stunned when prosecutor Ken Dutton produces damaging evidence contradicting the woman's claim that she was forced to kill to save the life of her child.
Performance
Pellegrino seriously considers giving up the law when a man he successfully defended on a robbery charge becomes a murderer; Dr. Carson fights Dr. Judith Bergstrom, hospital regulations and a prominent physician to save a child's life.
Bad Blood
Bergstrom is sued for malpractice when a wounded police officer dies after surgery; a bed ridden Frank (Daniel Hugh-Kelly) is afraid to return to street duty.
Dutton's Law
Assistant State Attorney Ken Dutton puts his career on the line when he tries to learn why his prosecution of o murder suspect was first hindered then stopped altogether, Megan attempts to make a negligence case against a cop for his part in an injury sustained during a "hot pursuit" chase.
Subterranean Blues
Frank goes undercover to infiltrate currency smugglers; one of Dr. Bergstrom's patients refuses to be released.

A man named Miller is charged with the murder of Cooney, whom he had earlier accused of murdering his lover. Miller had been furious when Cooney was acquitted due to lack of evidence. Has Miller really taken the law into his own hands?

A teenager goes on a wild shooting spree to avenge the senseless murder of his sister by a street gang, and Megan is mugged in her apartment
