Episode 1
Part one of two. Documentary about American-born Irish statesman and political leader Éamon de Valera, a leader in the 1916 Easter Rising. In 1924, De Valera was stripped of power and in poor mental health in prison. There was a cohort of radical women involved in the 1916 Rising and the War of Independence who supported him. Then the Treaty happened. As suddenly as he had gained power, de Valera was locked out of it. Opposing the Treaty gave these women common ground with De Valera, but who would end up the losers in this political game?
