Valdres
A young man from Stuttgart let himself be enchanted by the encounter with Norwegian nature. He found himself a Norwegian girl, took her surname and settled on a dilapidated, roadless farmstead in Valdres. Now Inger Norunn and Rainer Solhaug have transformed the homestead into a fairytale farm, where they also make a living, she as a silversmith, he as a woodworker.
Bjarkøy
Olaug Pettersen lives alone in an otherwise abandoned fishing village in the far north of Bjarkøy municipality in Troms. In the course of four years, she lost three of her closest friends. The man died of health problems, while two sons died in separate accidents at sea. All three lie in the churchyard at Meløyvær, and it is the three graves that bind her to the town. But Olaug has fought through adversity and finds joy in everyday life.
Åseral
Magnhild Snaprud from Søgne and Christoffer Christensen from Denmark found each other when they went on the outdoor line at Høgskulen in Telemark. They have taken over the decommissioned mountain farm Listøl in Åseral in Vest-Agder. Magnhild is a teacher down in the village and uses a wheeled sled when she sets off on the school road on a winter's day, while Christoffer has fallen in love with old timber houses and does restoration work.
Brattværet
As a pensioner, nostalgic Leif Birger Hagen is moving back to his childhood island, the abandoned fishing village of Brattværet on the North Sea coast, after a long life in a fishing boat. In the weather, he tries to find those happy childhood years, at the same time as he went out with his shark, "Hurragutten", and fishes with drugs. After a long life as a bachelor, he has also got a lady, a flame from his youth, you must know.
Fosenhalvøya
Klara and Einar Hårstad live at the mountain farm Lysvatnet on the Fosenhalvøya in Trøndelag. The distance to the nearest neighbor is 11 kilometers without roads. Hunting, fishing and outdoor life are what occupied Einar the most, and he could not have imagined a better and freer life. It was painful to send the children to school, Klara thinks. Now they are happy that a son will follow in their footsteps.
Numedal
Lars-Erik Jacobsen has put his love into everything that is old. As a 15-year-old, he joined a history team, where there were only pensioners, and when he was 20 he bought the roadless, steep-sided and dilapidated mountain farm Skrepprud far north in Numedal. He has lived there for almost 40 years, and everything he puts aside from his teaching salary, he uses to buy old houses and household items and moves everything to his home.
