Unschooling: The Great School Exodus

There is a growing movement where an estimated 200 to 400 thousand children are not attending a traditional school? Instead of the classroom, parents are removing their children in order to let them decide what they want to learn and how they want to learn it. This controversial child-led learning is called "Unschooling," where the child directs his or her education through their own interests, all while allowing their daily experiences to help teach them. Dr. Phil will speak with parents, Taylor and Nick, who say their three boys are unschooled, barefoot, and using their curiosity and love of nature as their teacher and lesson plan. Dr. Phil will also meet parents, Jenn and Kyle, who say they have forgone traditional school to instead hit the road with their family and unschool their children in a bus called Blue Betty. The debate heats up when Dr. Phil introduces critics of unschooling, including educator Dr. Dione Thomas, who claims unschooling is educational neglect, an online trend, and a disaster for our society. Dr. Phil also speaks with Lexi, who claims being allowed, as a child, to pick and choose the subjects she wanted to learn at home caused serious problems when she decided to pursue college. Will Lexi's story change the minds of pro unschoolers?
