Jimmy Doherty sets out to find out how to make a kipper, and why this nutritious fish is no longer a breakfast favourite in Britain. In the Netherlands, Jimmy wonders if we should copy the Dutch, who eat their herring raw. In Germany, Kate Quilton investigates gherkins, and discovers a space-age machine that can pickle food in seconds. And if rice cakes are made from brown rice, how come they're white?
