05/03/2022

Alex Scott and her guests reflect on the latest football headlines and look ahead to the weekend's action, which includes the Premier League Manchester derby at Etihad Stadium.

While reigning champions Manchester City have built a seemingly impregnable lead at the top of the table, neighbours United have struggled for consistency despite a change of manager. Nonetheless, United remain in the hunt for Champions League qualification and might be encouraged by the fact only three of the past 17 Manchester derbies in all competitions have been won by the home team.

Earlier in the week, City were one of three top-flight heavyweights with an FA Cup last-16 tie away to Championship opposition, while non-league Boreham Wood faced Frank Lampard's Everton.

Alex Scott and her guests reflect on the latest football headlines and look ahead to the weekend's action, which includes a clash between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

In the reverse fixture earlier in the season, a 3-0 win by the Red Devils helped spell the end for Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked in the aftermath of the match.

A lot has happened since, with Tottenham appointing Antonio Conte and United themselves changing manager with club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer departing.

Performances haven't improved drastically for either club, so three points are crucial in the battle for the Champions League places.

The pick of the Premier League fixtures sees Liverpool host fierce rivals Manchester United, a fixture which has predominantly gone the way of Jurgen Klopp's side in recent years. The Red Devils last won at Anfield in 2016, thanks to a late Wayne Rooney strike, and will be looking to avenge a humiliating 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool back in October.
