Season 1
Aksel Borgen, before his name change Aksel Nilsen, was tried 20 years ago for the murder of 18-year-old Karine Haansteen. However, this went out with the significant acquittal. Branded, he disappears from his hometown Lifjord in Norway and makes his career in Asia. He lives with his wife Angeline and his son as a successful businessman inKuala Lumpur. One day he is confronted by his work with his past: William Haansteen asks him for an investment in the financially troubled solar company in Lifjord. Aksel flies to Norway, where old feuds re-emerge and Eva Haansteen, the mother of the killed Karine, fights him fiercely.

Frikjent, likevel dømt
As a teenager, Aksel Borgen was acquitted of the murder of his girlfriend, Karine. Despite the fact that he was not found guilty, everyone thinks he is and he is forced to flee his hometown. He will not return until 20 years later. His return reminds people of the horrific murder that was never solved, and Aksel realizes that he is not welcome in Lifjord.

Kampen
Aksel will not give up without a fight to get the majority share in Solar Tech. More and more people in the small village are beginning to see the value of keeping the cornerstone company alive, rather than keeping old grudges against Aksel. The Hansteen family is divided on whether to sell to the enemy, or let the long-standing company go bankrupt.

Splittelsen
Aksel has to stay in Lifjord until he has found a new manager for Solar Tech after Eva decides to leave the company. This leads to a conflict in the Hansteen family, and Lars' loyalty to his mother is tested when he is offered the position as CEO.

Avsløringen
Aksel has to juggle his relationship with Tonje when Angeline and her son Tim come to Lifjord. He has to tell his wife about Karine and her past, but avoids telling the whole truth. Eva is determined to find something the police have overlooked that may be enough to resume the case against Aksel.

Tvilen
Angeline no longer believes that Aksel is innocent, and in order for him to be able to convince her, he needs Tonje's help.

Rekonstruksjonen
Angeline wants them to leave Lifjord, but after receiving revealing photos of Karine, Aksel will stay and take up the hunt for the killer. Degang has started making cuts in Solar Tech, and Lars will have to lay off his friends.

Oppgjøret
Aksel is still looking for the person who took nude photos of Karine, and his suspicions directed at Per Olav become even greater when he finds out that he is violent towards his girlfriend Åse.

Flukten
Aksel finds out that several people have lied to him about the details of what happened the night Karine was killed. He suspects himself as the killer and is determined to leave Lifjord.

Løgnen
The police are looking for Aksel's bloody t-shirt from 20 years ago. The case takes an astonishing turn when an unexpected person reports himself to the police for the murder. Eva's behavior is frustrating and worrying for the family.

Sannheten
Tonje and Aksel continue their affair, and he realizes that he will have to choose between two lives. After an unexpected confession and a surprising DNA test result, the police are sure that they have found the killer. Eva, on the other hand, feels that something is not right.
