Grenseland (1979)
In eight episodes, we can follow the Norwegian labor movement in a dramatic period. Norwegian history throughout the dozen years. This is the story of Norway in the interwar period and during the German occupation. A depiction of the legendary hard 30s. Of Norwegian labor rising. Of class struggle. Of crisis. Of the national struggle during the war. A depiction of the break between rural and urban environment, and the development of a young intellectual worker. The main character Karl Martin grows up in the borderland between city and country, in the borderland between the working youth in "Paradise" and the middle-class environment most of his schoolmates belong to. He becomes a worker - for a time. Then he becomes a journalist, an intellectual. And ends up both between the petty bourgeoisie and the workers and between the intellectuals and the workers. He ends up in the middle of it all.
