When Flora undergoes hypnosis to help her stop eating, the message gets confused and as a result Flora subconsciously reacts to phone bells by treating Stella as her best friend. Meanwhile, Stella is up for a promotion, and her supervisor from Angel Glow cosmetics is in town to get to know her better. The confusion culminates at a crazy dinner party where Flora uncontrollably snaps back and forth between attitudes and almost ruins Stella's business future.

And when Della pays a visit to Harper Valley, it becomes clear she is willing to subvert Stella's good name in order to snare a rich boyfriend. unfortunately, when she sets her sights on Bobby Taylor, he thinks she's Stella -- and so does everyone else in town. when Flora hears the news, she sets a trap, thinking Stella must be a victim of a split personality. Stella soon sets things right by introducing Della to an astonished town council.

The second shock comes when they meet an unusual stranger whose mysterious ways both fascinate and unsettle them. Meanwhile, back in Harper Valley, Uncle Buster and Mayor Otis hear a news report that an ax murderer has escaped from prison and was last seen in the area of the Grizzly Gap campground. Worried, they prepare their own expedition to rescue Stella and the girls.
