Mountain Chic
Mitch and Maggie recently left the Colorado mountains for a big city condo. Their current kitchen has flimsy, generic cabinets better suited to a garage, and a stove that probably hasn't worked properly since the '70s. Alison starts by knocking down a wall separating the kitchen from a small bedroom. Clever blending creates the perfect color stain for new floorboards installed to patch bare spots created by the wall demolition. Alison literally brings the outdoors in with chunky live-edge shelves and an antler chandelier. Maggie and Alison build a rolling side table from a reclaimed log. Mitch and Alison construct a huge island table entirely from salvaged 2x4s. The focal point of the new dining area is a mural wall with a forest motif. Cream colored cabinets contrast with dark granite countertops, and rubbed bronze hardware gives a warm glow. Matte gray tiles bring a clean, linear look to the backsplash. Extra touches include a pot filler over the stove and a wine cooler in the new bar area.
