Episode 5
In the second heat of the week, four new hopefuls must prove to Monica, Marcus and Gregg that they have the talent, flair and commitment to reach the top. Only the strongest two chefs will go through to the quarter-final at the end of the week.
The infamous Skills Test kicks off the competition. The first two chefs are tasked with completing the challenge set by Monica of preparing and cooking scallops and serving them with carrots and a peanut sauce.
The remaining two chefs must complete Marcus' Skills Test, which requires them to take the flavours of a classic poire belle Helene – poached pears, chocolate and Chantilly cream – and serve them with layered pastry.
In the second challenge, all four contestants have the chance to put the Skills Test behind them and wow the judges with their own Signature Menu. They have one hour and 30 minutes to showcase their style, technique and eye for plating, and serve up a dish worthy of a quarter-final place.
