Alles wird anders - das erhofft sich Alex zumindest vom Beginn der Oberstufe. Das Kurssystem verheißt ein Leben ohne Claudia. Aber natürlich ist Claudia so schlau, genau die Kurse zu nehmen, die auch Alex gewählt hat, und so schallt Alex in der ersten Schulstunde nach den Ferien - dem verhassten Chemieunterricht bei Dr. Orthmanns - Claudias wohl bekannter 'Aaaalex'-Ruf entgegen. Ist doch alles wieder beim Alten? Nicht ganz: Daniel taucht nicht in der Schule auf - hat er Dr. Orthmanns Rat befolgt und die Schule geschmissen? Claudias wilde Spekulationen, was Daniel wohl zugestoßen sein mag, verleiten Alex zu dem Fehler, Claudia von Daniels familiären Problemen zu erzählen, was Claudia zu noch größeren Sorgen animiert und ihr außerdem das schier unüberwindbare Hindernis in den Weg legt, ein Geheimnis für sich bewahren zu müssen.
