Police: Night Shift 999 - Season 2

Return of the documentary following Gloucestershire Constabulary on the night shift, beginning with a busy Saturday for PC Hewer on patrol in Cheltenham town centre. Among the crowds of drinkers, Hewer challenges a man suspected of urinating in the street, who then becomes abusive.

An altercation in a bar leads to a foot chase for officers through Gloucester city centre that is only ended by use of pepper spray, a handy tool for the cops if a calm and reasoned approach doesn't work. A 999 caller reports a burglar stealing radiators from unoccupied houses and hiding them in back gardens nearby.

Officers race to catch burglars red-handed after two men are seen trying to break into a number of houses in Cheltenham. When the cops arrive, the men have disappeared, but an extensive search reveals a suspected stolen moped, and police dog Elmo picks up a strong scent and starts tracking. In Gloucester, traffic cops are pursuing a dangerous suspected drink driver. As officers race to catch up, two innocent female passengers are caught up in the nightmare 120mph chase as he speeds through a red light and drives the wrong way around a roundabout. Officers close in on the driver — before he suddenly brakes and tries to flee on foot. Suspicions are raised when a man pulled over for a minor traffic offence becomes irate and argumentative. Gloucestershire cops suspect the man may be high on drugs, and a subsequent drug test provides a surprising result for the driver. As officers take their suspect in for questioning, the man is seen acting suspiciously in the back of the police car and officers find two suspicious packages. A manhunt is launched after a driver smashes into a gas main and disappears into the night. As officers investigate the crash, a car is found in a ditch, but the driver is missing. Police officers fear the driver may be injured, and a police helicopter joins the search. But then new information from control takes the investigation into a surprising new direction. A suspected drink driver is at fault when a car is left abandoned after a late-night accident. A man found propped up against a tree claims he isn't the driver and that his facial injuries are the result of a pub fight. But the cops are not convinced and start investigating.

PCs Hayes and Fox are called to a suspected fight, but not all is at it seems and they end up trying to get to the bottom of an alleged drug deal gone wrong. Officers Wells and Bace deal with a lovers' spat spinning out of control and need to decide the best course of action to protect everyone, but it's not going to go down very well with either partner.

Officers respond to a report of a two-vehicle crash, but when they arrive at the scene only one of the cars is present, leading them to suspect the other driver has fled as he may have been over the drink-drive limit. In the early hours, an emergency call comes in of a theft in which a man broke into a car, but was disturbed by the owner and is now on the run.

In Gloucestershire police officers are called to a late-night break-in at a shop. Thieves targeting cigarettes have raided the premises and made off at high speed, initiating a force-wide area search across the county with the police helicopter joining ground units to track the gang down. Traffic officer PC Webb, aka "Bear", is on the M5 motorway dealing with torrential rain which is making driving treacherous. He's called to a crash in the fast lane that has brought traffic to a standstill and is causing a headache for the cops and rescue crews. Near Cheltenham, two PCs deal with a problem: a driver has called in to report another road user for drink driving, but when the cops arrive it's the man who reported it who seems drunk and who is breathalysed, and found over the limit. However, the biggest issue for the cops is his aggression, and his tactics delay the inevitable breath test back at the station. And PC Dawkins notices a van driving along with the passenger door open. As he pulls up to investigate, a passenger runs off leaving the driver to explain what is going on.

In Gloucestershire a police dog unit is called in to try and track down a driver and passenger who have gone missing after a late-night crash on a busy road. Officers are called out to an abandoned vehicle that has careered off a road at speed and gone through a hedge.  The cops think they have their suspects when they stop a couple seen nearby but when the couple deny all knowledge of the accident it's down to the police to link them to the crashed vehicle. On the M5, officers are left astounded when they spot a dangerous van driver watching television while driving down a motorway at 70 mph. The driver objects saying it was a video not TV and is oblivious as to what he has done wrong, but he soon changes his tune when he is told just how reckless and foolish he has been. Police officers working the weekend shift in Gloucester deal with back-to-back troublemakers as drunks pile out of pubs and clubs and onto the city's streets. As one man is arrested for breaking a nightclub window, and another two drunk men restrained by officers for suspected assault on club bouncers, CCTV cameras spot an assault just off the main high street when a homeless man is beaten up by two men. Two suspects seen leaving the area are stopped and arrested, and plead self-defence, while street medics treat the victim for his injuries. A driver is trapped upside down in his van with potential life-threatening injuries after losing control on a busy A road. As emergency crews battle to cut him free, officers race to the scene to close the road down and keep the control room updated.

A car is stolen in Gloucester and then crashed by a pair of youths. Traffic officer PC Merchant and the firearms unit set out to track down the culprits, but it proves to be harder than expected. Elsewhere, PCs Hayes and Cooper help a night worker in a petrol station, after he is shockingly attacked by one of his customers.
