Episode 6

The final episode of Seirm Celtic Connections was filmed in 2022 during the festival in Platform, Glasgow. Presenter Mary Ann Kennedy welcomes a diverse cast list of musicians, including a second appearance by Blue Rose Code, a band who blend Celtic soul, jazz, and rock to winning effect. The focus of the band, songwriter Ross Wilson, channels energy into the songs resulting in transcendental performances.

A welcome addition to any stage, the popular Fara have eclipsed their Orcadian musical roots and have played in venues everywhere, from the Stromness Hotel to the Royal Albert Hall. Here, the quartet – Jeanna Leslie, Catriona Price, Kristin Harvey and Rory Matheson – showcase music that has won them a following around the world. Also on the show is Belfast-based musician Brìghde Chaimbeul, who has set the piping world alight with her innovative style and collaborations. Here Brìghde appears with Fin Moore, the musician and instrument maker, and an early mentor of Brìghde.

Wild Cards

Wild Cards follows the unlikely duo of a gruff, sardonic cop and a spirited, clever con woman. Ellis, a demoted detective, has unfortunately spent the last year on the maritime unit, while Max has been living a transient life elaborately scamming everyone she meets. But when Max gets arrested and ends up helping Ellis solve a local crime, the two are offered the opportunity to redeem themselves, with Ellis going back to detective and Max staying out of jail. The catch? They have to work together, with each using their unique skills to solve crimes. For Ellis, that means hard-boiled shoe leather police work; for Max, it means accents, schemes and generally befriending everyone in sight, while driving Ellis absolutely nuts. Against the backdrop of beautiful Vancouver — with all its unique, charming, and even contradictory neighbourhoods and subcultures — the two will have to learn what it means to trust another person and maybe actually become partners.
