Once Upon a Time

Sister Boniface investigates when the Christmas production of Cinderella turns into the pantomime of death.

Christmas is coming and for the Great Slaughter Amateur Dramatics Society (GSADS) that means Pantomime!

This year it is Cinderella and with the appointment of a "celebrity" director, Jonas Blake, the pressure is on to deliver the best performance yet. CC Lowsley volunteers the Great Slaughter constabulary to swell the cast.

Peggy is willing but both Sam and Felix are horrified. The title role goes to the brash Bunny Frobisher, recently married to wealthy widower Aubrey, and now step-mother to gloomy Miranda. Busy-body Samira Rowbotham is cast as the Evil Stepmother whilst her long suffering husband Robbie plays Baron Hard-up. Meanwhile, Tibbles the cat leaves Mrs Clam and Miss Thimble a grisly gift; a human eyeball! Sister Boniface is on the case, whilst Sister Reg grapples with the heartache of having to sacrifice her friend Terry the Turkey for Christmas dinner.

As pantomime rehearsals commence Jonas' questionable artistic vision creates hostility within the company, whilst Miranda's hatred of Bunny causes her to snap at the enthusiastic props assistant Wilf. Events take a sinister turn when Aubrey's body falls out of a wardrobe onto the stage, and soon after another cast member is slain! Sister Boniface now has a serial killer on her hands. Can she unmask them before they strike again?

The Repair Shop

The Repair Shop is a workshop of dreams, where broken or damaged cherished family heirlooms are brought back to life.

Furniture restorers, horologists, metal workers, ceramicists, upholsterers and all manner of skilled craftsmen and women have been brought together to work in one extraordinary space, restoring much-loved possessions to their former glory.

Many of these items have incredible stories behind them and a unique place in history: from an accordion played in the Blitz by a woman who is now in her 90s, to a beautifully crafted clock made by a father who was completely blind; a Pinball machine that is currently being used as a kitchen counter, and a Davenport desk with its trademark fake drawers which fooled burglars - and their crowbar.

The Repair Shop is an antidote to our throwaway culture and shines a light on the wonderful treasures to be found in homes across the country.
