Terápia - Season 1

Season 1

Terápia is the Hungarian adaptation of the successful Israeli series Be Tipul (In Treatment). The original screenplay was written by Israel's Hagai Levi, while István Tasnádi and his team of screenwriters were responsible for the Hungarian version. At the centerpiece of the story, directed by Ildikó Enyedi and Attila Gigor, is András Dargay (Pál Mácsai), a charming psychologist in his 50s. On Monday, and old patient of his, the "problematically sexy" Laura (Erika Marozsán) visits his practice. On Tuesday, a big-shot businessman, Máté (Ervin Nagy), sits on his couch, who is suffering the consequences of a decision that had a significant effect on the fate of other people. On Wednesday, coming to therapy is the 16-year-old gymnast Zsófi (Dóra Sztarenki): both of her arms are in a cast after a bicycle accident and the insurance company wants an opinion from a psychologist on whether it was a suicide attempt. On Thursday, a couple, Petra and Tamás (Zsófia Szamosi, Zsolt Nagy) look for answers to their questions on András's couch. The woman, who has a successful career, is hesitant as to whether she should keep the baby that earlier she longed for so badly. On Friday, András visits his mentor, Ágnes (Eszter Csákányi), whom he has not seen for ten years, and it soon becomes clear that the seemingly successful and happy father of two is wrought by internal uncertainties and his marriage (Anikó Für) is also on the rocks. The drama of these eight people unfolds in Terápia.

Terápia - Season 2

Season 2

The long, hot summer finds András in the heart of the Bohemian quarters of Downtown. Here he rents a bachelor apartment and runs several kilometers every morning, so his body and soul should both be in outstanding condition. His optimism is shattered by a sudden blow from the past; one Sunday morning György Abonyi appears on his doorstep and gives an ultimatum to the good doctor: he should terminate his praxis, otherwise he would be sued and brought to the ethics committee because of the death of Máté. The guilt of András resurfaces and it doesn't help, either, that he is to deal with perhaps the hardest cases of his career. On Mondays Ferenc (Gábor Máté), the well-known politician sits on his couch, who has panic attacks, which could easily be attributed to the corruption scandal he found himself in. However, their conversations explored much deeper causes. On Tuesday a former patient of András calls for a new appointment. The successful lawyer Orsolya (Bori Péterfy) accuses the therapist of persuading her to get an abortion 16 years ago. As their sessions progress, it becomes clear that what happened in the past and how it happened is not what both of them suppose. Old acquaintances arrive for the Wednesday sessions, but this time not Petra and Tamás is the center of therapy, rather their overweight, adolescent son Misi (Áron Surányi). By her admission, the patient on Thursday, a college student in her twenties (Niké Kurta), loves living too much. Slowly it dawns on András that all this is just the surface, Virág struggles with a lethal illness. On Fridays András returns to his former mentor, and although first he only contacts Ágnes for an expert opinion, soon the treatment of the therapist resumes. This new season of 35 episodes will start on HBO in the autumn of 2014.

Terápia - Season 3

Season 3

From the first two seasons of In Treatment, it has become quite clear that András Dargay is a psychologist whose methods are far from the norm. He allows himself to get unusually close to his patients, sometimes breaking professional and ethical rules alike, and this has an impact on his private life, too. In the final season, András goes further than ever before. To avoid having to face up to himself, he tears up the textbooks and attempts to help those who turn to him with his own approach
