Season 4

Episodes

Season Premiere and Biscuit Week
12 amateur bakers from across South Africa start their journey in the Bake Off Tent with new judges Siba Mtongana and Paul Hartmann, and hosts Lesego Tlhabi and Glen Biderman-Pam.

Cake Week
Bakers explore the world of cakes, including a fresh fruit loaf and an ambitious Macadamia and Lemon Meringue Roulade. Bakers then reveal the stories that made them who they are in a Showstopping Core memory cake scape.

Bread Week
It's bread week in the Bake Off tent and Siba and Paul task the bakers with pizza making in the signature Challenge. It all comes down to the showstopper, involving elaborate bread structures and loaves from around the world.

Retro Week
Siba and Paul send the Bakers back in time for retro week, recalling classics like Choux Pastry Swans, steamed puddings and layered terrines. It's another challenging week for the bakers, who are all out to claim the title of Star Baker and avoid being sent home.

Spice Week
It's spice week in the Bake Off Tent. For the first challenge, the bakers have to make spiced tarts. One of the most challenging technical bakes of the season sees the bakers attempt steamed ginger puddings and the showstopper requires the bakers to make baklava, complete with their own phyllo pastry.

Greens Week
This week on The Great South African Bake off, the bakers are celebrating vegetables through a range of delicious challenges. Siba and Paul task them with vegetarian galettes, a traditional Turkish flatbread, and vegetable showstoppers.

Custard Week
It's custard week on The Great South African Bake Off and the bakers kick things off with a Franginpane Tart with Crème Anglaise. For their technical, Siba tasks them with producing a South African favourite - custard-filled doughnuts. The Showstopper sees the bakers making their own Bavarian Cream Gateaux.

Royalty Week
Exploring the world of royalty this week, the bakers will be making Pan du Coronne, or Crown Bread, Queen of Sheba Cake, and a sophisticated showstopper fit for a king.

Semi-Finals
With just 4 bakers left in the competition, the pressure has ramped up once again with patisserie week, including bombe, and a difficult bake reportedly dedicated to the patron saint of baking. For the Showstopper, the bakers are required to make elaborate entremet, complete with mirror glaze and accompanying macarons.

Finale
The top three bakers battle it out to be crowned South Africa's Best Amateur Baker. For their final signature bake, Siba and Paul request 24 glazed petit fours, which highlight distinct South African flavours. The technical challenge comes with a twist that takes the bakers by surprise, and for their last challenge of the season, bakers have 5 hours to create a large sculpture - the final chance to impress the judges enough to claim the title.
