In the 15th century, the Anzai and Satomi clans are at war. In a hopeless situation of the house of Satomi, an unbelievable promise is made: the dog Yatsufusa is to receive the princess Fuse as his wife if he brings the head of Kagetsura Anzai. After the defeat of the Anzai clan, Fuse insists that the prince keep his word. However, before her eight offspring are born, the princess chooses death. Eight beads from Fuse's prayer chain will reveal her incarnations. Years later. Eight young warriors - they all have a skin mark in the shape of a peony. Each of them possesses one of the beads. The first four dog warriors are brought together by the fate of the magical sword Murasame. It is to be handed over to its rightful owner, the ruler of Kanto ...

Ultimately, the princess is killed, along with Yatsufusa, by a bullet from the gun of Daisuke Kanamari, who had come to rescue her. At the moment of Fuse's death, eight spirit beads from the necklace she was wearing disperse into the sky and the legend of the dog warriors begins.

Deeply in love with Shino and despondent over this news, Hamaji decides to kill herself, but is saved at the last minute by Samojiro Aboshi, who later reveals to her his true nature as an evil sorcerer and sets upon Hamaji himself. Hamaji's subsequent rescuer turns out to be her long lost brother, Dosetsu Inuyama, from whom she was separated at birth.

But the man released from captivity in the castle dungeon and assigned to capture Shino turns out to be none other than the fourth dog warrior, Genpachi Inukai.
