The Jury: Death on the Staircase - Season 1

Season 1

Episodes

The Death
The 12 jurors are introduced to each other and the manslaughter case that will become the focus of their lives for the next eight days.

The Relationship
By day three of the trial, the jury is engrossed in the case and thoughtful about their role in it. They hear from a neighbour who heard the prelude to the tragedy.

The Evidence
Day five of the trial delivers a series of surprises for the jury. They are bundled onto a bus and driven to the scene of the crime where speculation ramps into overdrive. When they return to court, juror Van is looking forward to an autopsy report for some cold, hard facts. The prosecution calls medical witnesses who meticulously examined the crime scene and Carlo's corpse. A forensic expert also describes unusual injuries on Shaun's body, and the discovery of DNA from a third person. The judge forces a reckoning: asking the jury to deliver a mid-point decision.

The Reckoning
The jury is locked in passionate debate. Anya says they are all full of doubts and then Craig drops a bomb. Unable to agree on a unanimous verdict to acquit Shaun, the trial continues. The defence barrister presents his own forensic expert, to throw doubt on the veracity of the prosecution argument. By the time our jury hears the prosecution's gripping closing argument, even the most sympathetic are leaning towards guilty. How will this impact the jury's final decision?

The Verdict
Having heard all the evidence, the real work begins for the jury. The jurors settle in for an emotionally charged debate. They work through their own experiences, the evidence, logic and the law, but will they reach a unanimous decision? Back in court, the jurors deliver their decision - but this case isn't over. What the judge tells them next is more shocking than anything they have heard over the course of the trial. The shattering reveal at the end of this series is not only the final decision of the jury. An entirely unexpected voice delivers a message to our jurors.
