Season 1
World on Fire is a heart-stopping, multi-stranded drama telling the story of World War Two through the lives of ordinary people from all sides of this global conflict. The first series of seven episodes tells the story of the first year of the war, starting with the German invasion of Poland in September 1939 and ending with the Battle of Britain.

Episodes

Episode 1
Summer 1939. Translator Harry is working at the British Embassy in Warsaw, falling in love with Polish waitress Kasia. When German tanks roll into Poland and Britain declares war on Germany, Harry and Kasia are faced with terrible choices.

Episode 2
A month into war and with Warsaw destroyed, Harry is desperate for news. Meanwhile Kasia joins the Polish resistance.

Episode 3
December 1939, and Tom fights for his life on board the HMS Exeter at the Battle of River Plate. Meanwhile, Harry and Lois have a more personal battle to fight.

Episode 4
Harry's courage is tested at Louvain as he comes face to face with a German sniper, and Kasia's resistance activity in Warsaw intensifies.

Episode 5
As thousands flee Nazi-occupied Belgium, Harry, Stan and the rest of their unit take the last route out of France - the road to Dunkirk, where Grzegorz fights his way to the front of a queue to board a boat - only to be thrown back by angry soldiers. In Manchester, Douglas finds solace in his rapport with Jan, as his growing anxiety about Tom pushes him to the brink, while in Berlin the Rosslers grow ever more fearful for Hilda.

Episode 6
June 1940. The Nazis have taken Paris with not a bullet fired. Webster and Albert's life in the city they love will never be the same again.

Episode 7
Harry has a second chance at saving Kasia from Warsaw. In Manchester, could Lois be set for happiness at last?
