The French have fared better in major tournaments since 1988, winning the World Cup twice and also reaching the final of this competition twice, including one victory in 2000. They can call on the quality of the likes of Kylian Mbappe, who ended up on the losing side despite scoring a hat-trick in the 2022 World Cup final, Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele, and all-time record goal-scorer Olivier Giroud, who has announced his retirement from international football following this tournament.
