El capítol comença ensenyant uns retalls de diari on s'explica que fa uns deu anys, un monitor, en Josep Lopes, va perdre durant una setmana un grup de nens al Matagalls, entre els quals hi havia el David Güell. Ja a l'actualitat, el Lopes ha de començar a buscar pis perquè el seu pare se n'ha anat a viure a Porrera. D'altra banda, el David, per la pressió de sentir-se ridícul davant el seu nou amic Pol de l'Institut del Teatre, també es posa a buscar pis. Curiosament coincideixen en la visita d'un pis de lloguer de l'Eixample, que el Lopes acaba llogant per 90.000 pessetes (uns 541 euros), per una mena de subhasta que acaben fent amb el David. L'endemà, el Pol pregunta al David sobre el pis i aquest li acaba dient que el comparteix amb un antic amic, en Josep Lopes, i així serà perquè mentre el Lopes està ensenyant el pis a la seva parella, la Lídia (també anomenada "la sapo" per la semblança de la seva cara a la d'un gripau), el David apareix amb tots els seus objectes i comença a penjar pòsters. Aquesta situació fa que el Lopes i la Lídia se separin allà mateix, i acabin amb una relació de dotze anys. L'endemà coneixen l'Emma, una veïna que viu a la caseta de fusta que hi ha al celobert. Poc després el Lopes és acomiadat de la ràdio i es veu obligat a abandonar el pis, però en David s'ofereix a deixar-li diners. Al final de l'episodi apareix per primera vegada la Carbonell, l'assistenta d'en David que l'acompanya en l'emancipació.
