Når vi snakker med andre, gjør vi hele tiden bevisste og ubevisste vekslinger og valg i måten vi uttrykker oss på. Vi snakker ikke på samme måten til besteforeldre som til venner. Måten man uttrykker seg på, sier derfor noe om hvem du er og hvilken posisjon du har. Trond Kirkvaags figur Jacob Winche-Lancke er en ekstremvariant av en vestkantsnobb, og han snakker helt forskjellig fra f.eks. Tron Øgrim, radikaler med et enda mer radikalt språk. Men snakker de egentlig troverdig? Rune Gerhardsen har synspunkter på den politiske sjargongen. Det homofile miljøet har også en egen måte å uttrykke seg på. Det er blant annet en stor forskjell på homsespråk og "skrullespråk". Lokalpatriotismen blomstrer når Norges styggeste dialekt skal kåres.
